Plump, Moist And All Grown Up
This is not the lip gloss of our middle school days. That shiny, glittery, sticky goo we whole heartedly embraced had its place and time. Fortunately, that time is long gone. So back away from the counter and that shimmery lip gloss and embrace ultimate lip gloss sophistication.
A cheat to applying eyeliner without the headache
Trouble with liquid eyeliner? Curl and apply your mascara first, then apply your eyeliner for an easier application. Yes, it goes against all beauty wisdom snobbery and breaks long held rules about order. But it works!
When you curl and apply mascara first, it creates a ledge that you can follow with your liquid eyeliner. This is great for beginners. It’s also useful when you’re in a rush and don’t have time to fuss around with Q-tips and makeup remover.
After you apply your shadow as preferred, follow these easy steps: Continue reading
At home or on the go, this palette is a real winner
Let me just start with the impressive price point on this one. At $40, the value of Tarte’s Showstopper Palette was a huge draw for me. I’m always dubious of special edition palette’s that seem to give you a little too much for the low price. There’s always a catch, and it’s usually that the size or quality just doesn’t measure up. Tarte delivers on quality, value and convenience with this pretty palette. Continue reading
Handmade skin treats and delicious eats from the majestic green isle
After a four mile hike along the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren Perfumery was a welcome respite for all my senses. This was the second day of my two week holiday in Ireland and turned out to be one of my favorites of the trip. Beautiful scenery, good food, lovely scents and skincare products are all surefire ways to my heart…especially when all in one awesome package.
The Burren Perfumery is Ireland’s oldest working perfumery. It’s a family run business that prides itself on local connections to the land and its customers. They have no aspirations of becoming a mainstream brand as it would alter who they are at heart. Along with perfume they also make soaps, creams, balms and candles. All are handmade in small batches from organic and natural ingredients. And all are unique as they are inspired by the natural landscape and diverse flora of the Burren. The perfumes remind me of Bond no. 9 in a way, as they try to capture a season or locale like the NYC brand does. Continue reading
Saviors for life’s daily beauty horrors, minus the ghosts
In honor of Halloween, here are 5 everyday beauty nightmares and the products I use to combat them. All under $10, I always go back to these because they work. No holy water required!
Beauty Nightmare #1- Dry, itchy skin!
Weapon- Palmer’s Cocoa Butter ($5.29 for 13.5oz)
An oldie but a goodie, I’ve been using Palmer’s Cocoa Butter since I was in grade school. This was in my bathroom growing up, so when I got old enough to start buying my own body lotion I stuck to this one. Even as a child, I loved the cocoa smell. It’s always such a treat to put it on and the scent lingers on the skin throughout the day. What I love most though is that is absorbs quickly without feeling greasy. It also never stings chapped hands during the winter. No other brand compares, and I’ve tried a lot of cocoa butter formulas over the years to see if I could find a rival. When I stray for too long, I find my skin looks a bit dull so I make sure to keep stocked up throughout the year. Glowing, cocoa smelling skin for $5, what more could you ask for?
From drugstore to splurge worthy
Blotting papers are this oily girl’s best friend. You won’t catch me without some in my purse. So if you’re asking “do I really need these?” my answer is absofreakinlutely. That does assume, of course, you have somewhat oily skin and want to address pesky midday shine.
Part 2: Saying no to another nude lipstick and preventing product overload
It’s been 11 weeks since my product detox. That sounds too dire for the subject matter at hand, but it has sometimes felt like a road to recovery. A sparkly, floral scented road to the other side…void of cosmetic black holes and glorified beauty hauls.
After the high of organizing all my products had vanished, I needed a plan to stay the course. So here are the steps I took to curb my beauty junkie habits. Think of it as the cheat sheet given out after a juice cleanse (but less painful).
Steps 1 through 4 are in Part 1: How I took control of the chaos and went one step beyond with a product detox along with a full list of tips for identifying expired products.
Take off your nail polish and nourish your nails in one step!
That nail polish has been on your nails for two weeks while you keep telling yourself they don’t look that bad. They’re just a little chipped. The nail polish isn’t doing that much damage to my nails, right? You’ll tell yourself anything to avoid the job of using a nail polish remover. The smell is horrid, and it’s a no go if you need to use your fingers for anything meaningful afterward like handling food or taking your contacts out, ouch! Been there, done that. I needed a better way and I found it with Karma Naturals Nail Polish Remover with Soybean Oil & Lavender. Continue reading
1/2 musk + 1/2 garnet + 1/4 peach = my personalized lipstick
The concept is pure genius. In less than 30 minutes, you can have a custom made lipstick in your hands starting at just $36.
I discovered Bite Beauty Lip Lab walking to the train in Manhattan about a year ago. Being familiar with the brand, I was excited to see they had an actual brick and mortar store. I went in to buy an off the rack lipstick but was pleased to discover they made personalized lipsticks. It was only a matter of time before I returned to create my own!
