La Roche-Posay Effaclar K- Renovating Care for Oily Skin

A true multitasker helping me bid my beloved blotting papers adieu

My combo skin’s best friend has longtime been blotting papers.  No matter where I go, I always have a pack of these on me for the inevitable midday and early evening touch ups.  While I love a good powder, I’ve never been a fan of layering it on throughout the day so the blotting papers are a necessity.  This surprisingly effective lotion has changed up this routine in a big way.

What it claims:

  • Smooth skin texture, tighten and unclogg pores
  • Make skin clearer
  • A more radiant complexion

Why it’s glow worthy:

  • So lightweight that it easily layers with other products
  • Minimizes shine on my t-zone throughout the day
  • Serves as a pimple spot treatment
  • Pores do seem more refined
  • Super gentle

I’ve been using this for about 4 months now and while I’m not 100% sold on all the claims just yet, I will say that this has been a powerhouse product for me.  I apply it every morning to my t-zone and chin as the first step in my routine.  Since it’s so lightweight, I can layer on all my other products as usual with no issue.  It has dramatically reduced the need for blotting throughout the day.  If I skip a day, I notice the difference right away. For that alone it’s enough to keep this as a staple.

Along with reducing shine, I have noticed that my pores do seem more refined.  It’s not a miracle product so I do still have blackheads and enlarged pores but they do look much improved.  For something so gentle, that is pretty impressive.I normally stay away from products with salicylic acid but have also been using this as a spot treatment for breakouts. My skin has become more sensitive in the past few years, but the formulation in this is so gentle I’ve experienced no redness.

I bought this product while in Paris, so I found it rather amusing that the version sold here in the US is marketed differently.  The one sold in the US is labeled as an acne treatment and is called Effaclar K Daily Renovating Acne Treatment.  They do appear to have the same ingredients, though it is unclear if the levels of salicylic acid are the same.  I hope they are as I’ll have to get my next fix here!

While I payed much less for this in beautiful Paris, I’ll still spend the $24 to $31 it will cost me here for my next tube.  You can find it at Amazon, Ulta and Dermstore.

Simple, gentle and effective- exactly what I want in a skincare product.
