Tarte Showstopper Palette, Stunning Inside & Out

At home or on the go, this palette is a real winner

Let me just start with the impressive price point on this one.  At $40, the value of Tarte’s Showstopper Palette was a huge draw for me.  I’m always dubious of special edition palette’s that seem to give you a little too much for the low price.  There’s always a catch, and it’s usually that the size or quality just doesn’t measure up.  Tarte delivers on quality, value and convenience with this pretty palette.

Although this was launched during the summer, the colors are versatile.  I bought this palette to use for travel, but it’s been promoted to an everyday staple following my most recent trip to Ireland.   It was the perfect travel companion (husband aside).  Minus a makeup base and mascara, it has everything you need for a full face of makeup.  The palette houses six eyeshadows, a blush, bronzer and highlighter in a nice range of cool and warm toned colors.  The blush is full sized and the eyeshadows are just a tad smaller than the normal Tarte eyeshadows.   I don’t mind the bigger size of this palette since it reduces the need to pack 4 or 5 separate products.  Also, the mirror is a great size for applying makeup.  It’s helps to be able to see your whole face in a mirror instead of just your eyeball!Tarte-Showstopper-Palette-2

If you’ve used Tarte products before, then you’ll be familiar with the powdery/satin texture of this palette.  This is really great for building color, but you do have to be careful when applying the blush and bronzer.  If you go in too heavy handed it can look streaky.  It’s best to start off light and build the color up.  I also find it applies better to powdered skin instead of applying directly over foundation or moisturized skin.  On the plus side, this formulation has serious staying power.  On my trip, I wore the full palette for over 12 hours at a time and never felt the need to touch up.  I used an eyeshadow primer which really ups the staying power.  Without an eyeshadow primer, the color starts fading near the crease after 8 hours.  I’d recommend going in with a primer regardless as you’ll get more dimension from the eyeshadow, especially when using some of the shimmery shades.

Here’s a quick description of the shades in the palette starting with the eyeshadows:

showstopper copper

Beautiful, muted copper with just a touch of sparkle

go for gold

Understated gold with a little shimmer- This may be my favorite color in the palette.  It’s a grown up gold, suitable for day/night wear without being too flashy.  It can also be used as an understated inner corner highlight.

you’re a natural

Matte beige color, great as a base color on me-  It evens out the color on my eyelids while adding a bit of warmth.  I also like to use it as a transition shade on no-fuss makeup days.

steel the scene

This is the coolest toned color in the palette- Although it looks like a silver/purple color in the palette it goes on more like a taupe with metallic finishes.  Great for a smoky eye.

rose to the top

Beautiful rose, metallic color-  This is the most vibrant shade but is still very wearable despite the metallic finish.

dim the lights

Deep brown/black color with almost imperceptible touches of sparkle.  This is great used as an eyeliner.

fame blush

This blush is what drew me to this palette over the Tarte Rainforest Palette.  It’s so different than any other blush I have.  It looks like a pastel orange/coral color but goes on as a neutral peach/coral.  You need to start off very light handed with this one as it can go on a bit heavy if you’re not careful.

park ave princess bronzer

This is a matte bronzer.  This is a nice alternative to all those shimmery bronzers out there.

champagne pink highlighter

This is a cool toned highlighter and although it looks like it has a ton of sparkle, when applied with a fan brush it’s subtle.  It can be worn as an eyeshadow and inner corner highlight as well.

The eyeshadows can be applied with fingers for an intense finish.  When using a brush make sure to tap off excess pigment to avoid fallout.   The eyeshadows are a bit on the powdery side but this is what gives them such an opaque color pay off.

I love how versatile this palette is.  Below is a day to night look using only the palette and Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara.  I tend to wear my makeup on the light side, but rest assured these can be layered as dramatic as you want.
